L’Enfant Gallery is as far from artificially intelligent as you can get. Owner, Peter Colasante does not have a computer and rarely uses email. Over 53 years in business, he has gathered over 4000 paintings. Each art work here has been individually and uniquely painted by a skilled human hand. No NFTs here.
It therefore seems unusual to bring the Al debate into this space. However, we want to foster dialogue across disciplines and bring different people in to discuss the world – both past and present.
And Al warfare is a very present reality. Once the stuff of apocalyptic science fiction, this technology is now used in every US military command across the world and by NATO. We have seen Al deployed recently in ICE raids across the US, in the capture of Nicolás Maduro, and in US military operations against Iran.
Join us to talk about it.
Speakers:
KATRINA MANSON is an award-winning Bloomberg reporter who covers cyber, emerging tech, and national security. Her investigations exposed details of the US military’s Al use and US-China rivalry. She was previously the Financial Time’s US foreign policy and defence correspondent, and before that, reported in African countries for the FT and Reuters. Manson will speak to her new book “PROJECT MAVEN” about the secretive decade-long Pentagon campaign to bring Al-powered targeting systems onto the battlefield.
THOMAS RID is Professor and founding director of the Alperovitch Institute for Cybersecurity Studies at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies.
