Woman with Hat (Isadora Duncan) by Karl Buehr (1866-1952), pastel on paper, 14 3/8″ x 9″, signed lower right.
Medium: Pastel on paper
Buehr began his career at the Art Institute of Chicago. His work so impressed the faculty that he was offered a teaching post. In 1905 the artist moved to Europe, eventually working at Giverny. It was here he became friends with the well-known expatriate impressionists Miller, Butler, Frieseke, and Parker. He focused on female subjects in outdoor settings. Interestingly, the site of this painting in Normandy may well be better known as D-Day's Omaha Beach.
