Portrait of a Young Lady, ca. 1900 by Louis Kronberg (1872-1965), oil on canvas, 30″ x 22″, signed lower left.
A figure painter and teacher, Kronberg studied at the Boston Museum School, the Arts Students League, New York and in Paris at the Academie Julian. Like Degas, he was fascinated with the ballet and its performers. His most popular paintings depict ballerinas. His work can be found in the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, Philadelphia; Metropolitan Museum, New York; and the Gardiner Collection, Boston. Of note: this painting is housed in its original frame.
