Spring Time in Normandy by Karl Buehr (1866-1952), oil on cardboard, 10 1/2″ x 13 1/2″, signed lower left.
Buehr began his career at the Art Institute of Chicago. His work so impressed the faculty that he was offered a teaching post. In 1905 the artist moved to Europe, eventually working at Giverny. It was here he became friends with the well-known expatriate impressionists Miller, Butler, Frieseke, and Parker. He focused on female subjects in outdoor settings.
