Sketch of a Woman by Theresa Ferber Bernstein (1890-2002), watercolor on paper, 11 1/2″ x 8 3/4″, signed lower right.
One of the best known and certainly the longest lived of the famed "Philadelphia 10", Berstein studied at the Philadelphia School of Design for Women. She embraced some of the ides of Henri and developed a rapid, fluid brushstroke. Her work was very masculine in its conception and not the gentile compositions that people expected of women artists.
