Boats in French Harbor by John Whorf, NA (1903-1959), watercolor on paper, 17″ x 20 1/2″, signed lower left.
Medium: Watercolor on paper
An accomplished and well-known watercolorist of the first hall of the 20th century, Whorf received early training from his father who was an artist and graphic designer. Subsequent studies included the St. Botoloph Studio, Boston and the Ecole des Beaux Arts and Academie Colarossi, paris. During his time in Europe he changed to watercolor as his medium of choice, finding it easier to use during his travels and better suited to his aesthetic interests. He returned to Boston to great acclaim, where he received instruction from Sargent.
