Still Life of Apples by George Orry-Kelly (1897-1964), oil on board, 6″ x 8″, signed lower right.
Orry-Kelly emigrated to New York from Australia to pursue an acting career. While sharing an apartment with Archibald Leach (Cary Grant), Orry-Kelly trained as a painted where he could not find acting roles. Finding he has multiple stage talents, he painted murals and designed costumes and sets for Broadway. He won several Academy Awards for his film-related costume designs.
