Woman Seated At A Tea Table by Lawton S. Parker (1868-1954), pastel on paper, 9 1/2″ x 7 1/2″, signed lower left.
The American Midwest is where Parker began a life devoted to artistic pursuits. He studied at the Academie des Beaux-Arts, Academie Julian, the Art Students LEague and the Chicago Art Institute. In 1903 Parker settled in the art colony of Giverny and developed an impressionist style. There he befriended Frederick Frieseke, a fellow expatriate, sharing with him a beautiful walled garden that figures into many of their paintings. He exhibited successfully in the Paris Salon and other prestigious venues.
